Sunrise Cottage

Sunrise Cottage
207 Morton

Sunrise is about as old as the town of Palacios - though its exact construction date is hard to determine. We do know - thanks to memorabilia discovered in the attic during renovation - that the Redmond family lived here in the early part of the 20th century and may have been the original owners. Among the items found in the attic are letters and Christmas cards received by Ruby Jeanette and Noreen Redmond from beaus, as well as schoolbooks, a copy of a 1930s children's magazine called Play Mate and the front cover of a August 1931 issue of Women's Home Companion magazine bearing the address label of a Mrs. C.E. Chamblee of Palacios. There is also a photo of three unidentified young women, a ticket to a dance in Houston, a note from Ruby Redmond's teacher Miss Bea Doyle, a scrapbook containing plans and decorating ideas for someone's future dream house and other items that tell the story of a little house lived in and loved by generations of Palacians.

Living Room

Today the little house that we call Sunrise is a perfect seaside getaway for couples or for families with up to three young children. The master bedroom is large and private, with a sitting alcove just outside the bedroom door with a "Texas daybed" (handcrafted by Angela's father years before his daughter ever dreamed of owning a home in Texas). The daybed is ideal for reading or for a night's rest for a youngster. The living room features a new futon sofa with inner spring mattress that converts to a very comfortable double bed. The eat-in kitchen features a new dishwasher, refrigerator, stove, microwave, toaster and coffeemaker. The pantry is stocked with dishes, cups, glasses and cookware, plus utensils. A new washer and dryer are located in the sunroom, off of which is the full bath with shower. Newly painted in shades of buttercup and bluebonnet, the interior walls of Sunrise are accented by Virgil's original photographs of Texas wildflowers and local scenes.
